AS YOU LIKELY KNOW, SCUBA IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS JUST GETTING INTO THE WATER AND GIVING IT A GO. THERE’S A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF GEAR INVOLVED, AND TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW AS WELL.
And that gear and training costs money — hard-earned Rands that you might not want to commit without being a more certain that you are going to like being underwater. Some people worry about freaking out or feeling claustrophobic.
THAT’S WHERE A DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING SESSION COMES INTO IT
Here’s what’s involved:
- The session is run by a qualified instructor
- All gear is provided — wetsuit, booties, fins, mask, regulator, buoyancy compensation device
- You’re fully briefed on what’s going to happen
- You’ll be taught basic skills to make you feel comfortable and confident
- You go down in a small group (maximum 4 people) in a controlled environment (such as a tidal pool)
- You practice some skills underwater
And if you love it and come up smiling, that’s your cue to do your Open Water Diver training — the first (and most widely-held) scuba diving certification.
