An Open Water and an Advanced certification is the bare minimum you need for becoming a safer diver, especially in our chilly, temperate Cape conditions.

So you’ve got your Open Water, it’s time for the Advanced course: What are you going to be in for?

There’s a theory component which will take 6-8 hours and can be done via e-learning, and then you’ll do a 5-dive practical component with an Instructor.

An Advanced certification exposes you to diving to a depth of 30m, has you work further on your buoyancy, introduces you to navigation skills and gives you more supervised diving time with an instructor working on ’specialities’ that are applicable to your local condition.

The Advanced course is also the gateway course and a prerequisite for when you want to become a Rescue Diver 😉

In Cape Town, a wreck dive, underwater naturalist/fish ID dive and a night dive are all excellent options to consider as your choices

  • Prerequisites: Open Water (or qualifying certification)
  • Total time commitment: 2-3 days
  • Minimum age: 12 years or older
  • Depth: The maximum depth depends on your age, but maximum depth is up to 30 metres
