Next up on our list of homegrown diving legends is Verna van Schaik, the Guinness World Record holder for the deepest scuba dive by a woman.

Her record-setting dive took place at Boesmansgat on 25 October 2004 where she dived to 221m. This incredible dive took 5 hours and 34 minutes to complete, and included 40 decompression stops. Only 12 minutes of that time was spent descending. The journey towards this amazing achievement is detailed in her book, ‘Fatally Flawed: The Quest to be Deepest”.
