Introducing the 2022 committee…

What led you to scuba diving? (How did it all start?)
The Seemonster, Carel (our Club PresidentÂ đŸ˜„). I am qualified as a Rescue Diver and have dived since 2008.

Pastimes when you’re not underwater?

What keeps you diving?
I think it is a few things. Social definitely; I work for myself and except for Carel I don’t see a lot of people during the week. Also, to leave all technology behind. Plus the sea changes constantly and there are always something different under the surface. My favourite things are sea stars.

What are you most excited about related to OMSAC and diving in the coming year?
All the new committee members and exciting things planned.

Share a fond memory related to being a member of OMSAC
Too many to recall, but I’m so glad that our motto is “even if there are only 2 members joining an event, it is successful”. This has made this the best diving club in Cape Town.

If you had to recommend a Cape dive site, which one would it be and why?
A-frame: interesting typography and beautiful walls covered with all the interesting creatures we love.

If you could dive anywhere in the world, where would you go?

What, in your mind, makes a good dive buddy?
A buddy that comes back and find you when you got distracted…

Be honest  What kind of dive buddy are you?
Mmm, need to ask my dive buddies.

What is your best tip/trick for new divers?
With winter coming, if you are concerned about the rain, always pack a dry set of clothes for after the dive. When you get back from a dive and you are cold, get into your warm and dry clothes as quick as possible. Don’t drink coffee before you dive.
