Tamyn Whitnall

Position on committee. Social Media

What are you looking forward to about being on the committee?  Finding interesting topics and ideas to share with the dive club on social since we can’t meet up in person yet.

How did you hear about OMSAC/come to join OMSAC? Ben and I were at Windmill Beach looking at dive conditions when a crowd of divers all emerged from the North Gulley at the same time. They were laughing and joking and had obviously had a great dive and I though “That’s what we need! A dive Club!” I recognised one of the divers (the one and only time we saw Clynton diving!) and asked him how we could join. Best decision ever.

How long have you been a member? 4 years

What is your current scuba qualification? Rescue + Nitrox

What do you do when you’re not diving? From 9 to 5 week days I work as an Architect but I’d much rather be hiking on Table Mountain or visiting the Cape’s awesome wine farms.

What is your favourite Cape dive site and why? A-Frame. Hands down. Somehow it always seems so protected. There is a great variety of life and a high chance of spotting shy sharks.

What’s your idea of the best-ever dive buddy? Someone who can understand my hand signals!

What is your bucket list dive site? Raja Ampat

What do you wish you knew when you started diving that you learnt the hard way or that you know now? Don’t buy any accessories until you have at least 50 dives under your dive belt! I looked like a Christmas tree underwater with all the danglies and accessories that were promoted to make diving easier or more enjoyable. They did neither. I should have hired gear from the club to find out what worked best for me.
