Introducing the 2022 Committee

What led you to scuba diving? (How did it all start?)
On a snorkelling trip with the skipper yelling “Whale shark! Jump in!” At the time I didn’t even know a creature could be both a whale and a shark, and wondered what I was getting myself into!

What is your highest level of scuba qualification and how long have you been diving?
Divemaster, about 10 years

What do you do with your free time when you’re not underwater?
Grow, cook and make stuff

What keeps you diving? (Macro/micro marine life, diving experience peace and quiet or social aspect?)
I never grow tired of watching how light behaves under water. I’m also constantly amazed by how close marine animals will allow you to be. Every dive feels like a little safari and a huge privilege

What are you most excited about related to OMSAC and diving in the coming year?
The shared experience of diving with different divers. Keeps the adventure in diving!

Do you have a fond memory related to being a member of OMSAC?
Going on dive trips together

If you recommended a Cape dive site, which one would it be and why?

Whittle Rock because of all the surprise encounters I’ve been lucky enough to experience there.

If you could dive anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Into the cenotes of Mexico

What, in your mind, makes a good dive buddy?
Anyone who doesn’t forget I’m their buddy for the duration of the dive will do.

Be honest  What kind of dive buddy are you?
I do enjoy navigating the dive site, so I’m usually out front

What is your best tip/trick for new divers?
Slow down, flow with the water. You’ll see more.
